my 4 yr old loves this car replica, as he’s into naming various types of cars on the road – and he “fell in love” with the mini-cooper. A very good and durable piece for his enjoyment

Whats the best brand of diecast car models?
I was thinking about Maisto Model Cars starting to collect diecast 1:18 car models and wanted to know what was the best brand? AUTOart? Maisto? Hot Wheels? ERTL? Kyosho?

No. Jada Toys/Big Time Muscle 1:18 die-cast model vehicles don’t sit on suspension “springs/coils”. Its just a rod and wheels like “hot-wheels”. Also, the detail on the engine bloc and seats are usually all made out of plastic. Maisto are far more better in quality. =)

While Maisto makes a decent replica, they are not the highly detailed and collectible vehicle that people seek as an investment. It may be worth $15-$20 at most. If it has been displayed, it is worth less than that.

Most craft stores will sell some model car making equipment. Your best bet, though, is going to a specialty shop, one that specializes in selling models and their components and the stuff you need to put them together. Look for such a shop in the Yellow Pages, under “Hobbies”, or use an internet search engine. For keywords, use “ car model making components” or something like that. I’ve had pretty good luck when I search the internet like this. Or search without the city and area, and you can find shops that sell online. If you can’t find a place near you, shoot me an email with the details, and I’ll try to find a shop that’s close to you. I’m going to be gone until much later tonight, though.

In comparison to what? They are not hand made, and yet the machines that are used to MASS PRODUCE them are not cheap. Plus some of those paint jobs. WOW!! Though they are applied by machine as well.Plus the scrap metal market is all going to China at premium prices leaving us very little here at home, that too drives up the cost.China is a big user of commodities, almost all high prices can be attributed to China in the fact they are gobbling up so much of everything, like we do and used to do, though to a lesser extent now with the economy the way it is.

I’ve not heard of that brand, but judging by the scale it sounds like they are large enough to carefully remove the wheels, “glass”, and interior from the metal body. The metal body could then be soaked in brake-fluid which will strip any paint. Jasco Paint stripper would also work, or mineral spirits or paint thinner.I’d just mask the model, wipe the model with thinner or alcohol to clean it, apply primer and repaint… GOOD LUCK.
